THE LIGHT

When I started writing this blog I thought that I would post something maybe once a week. As it turned out God gave me something to say more often than I thought He was going to. It seemed the more I wrote, the more I enjoyed doing it. Then in March and April it was as if God just wasn't giving me much to write. I would sit at my computer and just stare at the screen. When talking to God about it I would ask Him to please give me things to say. Most of the time I got nothing. When I asked Him why He wasn't giving me anything to write...He answered me...

Two days after I asked the Lord to forgive me and come into my life something very different, for me, happened. I awoke in the middle of the night thinking a scripture. At the time I had no idea where it was found, all I knew was that it was in the bible. I had heard it many times in my life but up until then it didn't mean anything to me.

Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. KJV

Immediately, I wrote it down because I was afraid I wouldn't remember it come morning. However, God has not let me forget it. Since then I have acquired many different versions of God's Word. I'm not saying that so you think I'm super spiritual. I believe that God has put a desire in me to read His word, in different versions, so that I will understand and retain it better. That said...After I asked Him why, He reminded me of the scripture He had given me. God's Word is light, a guide for us to live by. If we don't read it, all of the time, we get off the path and lose our way. We have to study the Bible, His Word, so that we can stay on the right path and not stumble and fall. He hadn't been giving me anything to write because I had been neglecting my time in His Word. By doing this I was actually neglecting God, the Light. Some days I wouldn't read it at all. Other days it would only be a verse or two. The more I neglected reading His word, the less He gave me to write about. That's understandable. Why should He give me things to say to others if I'm not doing what I should be doing? We need to read God's word because that's how He teaches and guides us in His ways.

I didn't just decide one day to stop spending so much time with Him. It all happened slowly over time. Normally I would come home from work and read my Bible for a few minutes before doing anything else. Then before going to bed I would read and study out of my Bible and different books that I have. Then one day, while deleting some things off my computer, I found an old game that was fun to play. So I started playing and before long my time to read The Word after work was gone. This went on for awhile and then I started playing at night when I would normally read. But...it was okay because I was still reading some. That was what I told myself. As time went on I was reading less and less until it was as I said earlier. Just a few scriptures. You see...that had become a distraction for me. You might say...well playing a game isn't a bad thing. You're right, it's not...until it takes away from your time with The Lord.

As Christians we have to be very careful how we spend our time. It's okay to do other things than pray and read The Word. But...it's not okay when those other things cause you to neglect the time you should be spending with HIM! We all need to set aside time everyday just for The Lord. Talking with HIM, worshiping HIM, and learning about HIM.

In your everyday life, if you go out into the darkness, you need to take a light with you. If you don't, you could run into something or even fall and get hurt. It's the same in your Christian walk. If you don't stay connected to The Light, you can fall...right into the darkness of evil. That's where satan is waiting for you. Don't give satan a chance to get the tiniest foothold in your life. He will take every opportunity you are willing to give him.

Another place that talks about the light is....

1 John 1:5-7 This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. NKJV

Remember, God is light. He is the only one that can guide us out of the darkness...sin. If we stay in the light, we stay close to God and out of a sinful lifestyle. Light and dark cannot co-exist.
